Product Specification
It is identified as one of the key metallurgical tool for economical manufacturing of stainless steel.

Principle of AOD converter operation
1. In AOD Operation, dilution of the oxygen by the inert gas lowers the partial pressure of carbon monoxide. This favours carbon removal and diminishes metallic oxidation.

2. There are three stages for Stainless Steel production in AOD Vessel.

Decarburization
  • Reduction/Desulphurization
  • Trimming
Decarburization
In the Decarburization phase the oxygen & inert gas ratio varies as following
  • Ist Blow 3:1 (carbon reduces to a level of 0.35%)
  • IInd Blow 1:1 (carbon reduces to a level of 0.15%)
  • IIIrd Blow 1:3 (carbon reduces to a level of 0.05%)
All the additions are made during decarburization so as to obtain the final composition.

Reduction/Desulphurization
For reduction of metallic oxides from slag, the reduction additions like ferro-silicon & aluminium are added and the bath is stirred with inert gas.

A good desulphurization takes place with the formation of high basicity slag & reduction of oxygen potential in the bath. Sulphur can be reduced from 0.03% to 0.003%.

Trimming
To achieve the final specification small additions are made before tapping.
